Overseas Visitors to Australia without a Medicare Card are generally not covered for hospital, medical and other health care services. Also, all temporary Residents in Australia without a Medicare Card (including visitors on 457 Visas) need to arrange their own health insurance.
Medicare does not cover Extras or Ancillary Benefits (such as general and major dental / physiotherapy /chiropractic / optical services / podiatry and many more).
Temporary Residents without a Medicare card are liable for:

- Out-Patient Medical Expenses for Injury and Sickness

Reduced Cover Option
If you are searching for a low cost option that does not include cover for pre-existing conditions, we recommend the Australian Unity Health Fund policy - Healthy Travel. This overseas visitors option provides private hospital and medical cover with optional extras cover for a range of health care services.
